Sharing my user folder

Greetings,

Networking my new WinXP Home and Win2K machines has been giving me a bit of a headache, and here's the deal:

After installing a firewall, tweaking network bindings, and taking the other necessary precautions, I've attempted to share and map the main hard drive root of each computer with the other, for the most part with success. All access is handled properly, both ways, except that I am denied access to the "Documents and Settings\David" folder on the XP box - the same folder on the Win2K machine does not deny access.

For the record, I have not set this folder - or any others - to "Private."

Well, thanks for any help.

The logins are identical on both computers, and were from the start, but that didn't seem to help..

Until I found another way, I decided to simply create a new share for this specific folder. Didn't really want to do it that way because it seemed a little messy. However, I found that after doing so and as long as this seperate share exists, I can access the folder through the original root share w/o a problem

Solved by accident, I guess. Thanks anyway

I'm sorry, but that's how Windows XP Home Edition works when it's
installed on an NTFS disk partition. It doesn't allow sharing the
Documents and Settings, Program Files, or Windows folders. I don't
know why Microsoft designed it that way.

You can share subfolders within those folders, e.g. you can share
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express" and access that folder from another
computer on the network.
