Hello -

I want to use sharing in Windows 2000 pro workgroup for a specific user from
one machine to another in a workgroup (not on server/domain, just a
workgroup). When I try to set up the share, the Look In "pull down" box with
the various computers is only listing the local machine and is greyed out so
I can't pull the arrow and see any of the other three machines. If I type
the \\compuername\user in the text box, I get the message:

"The object "localcomputername\user" is not valid because only objects from
domains that appear in the "Look In" box are allowed"

How can I accomplish the specifc user, different machine share?

Thanks in advance,
mize

On the computer sharing the file create a user using the same username and
password the user that will access the share uses to log onto their
computer. Then grant this user (select them form "local accounts")
permission to use the share.

In a workgroup environment only local user accounts can be assigned
permissions. On the machine hosting the share, create a new local user
account with the same user name and password that the remote user logs on
with.

OK, now If I select "Authenticated Users" as the permission on the share,
does this mean any of the local machine (the one with the shared drive) could
access the share as long as on the remote machine, I have the same user name
and password defined?
