I can't seem to be able to share any files from our
work "server". We currently have three operating systems
in the office, win 98, win2k and win xp. In total we have
15 computers (not a very large office). Our "server"
computer has the intranet which is required to be shared
to the 14 other computers to allow the employees access
to it daily. On our "server" we have 3 accounts, admin
(which has administrator privileges), administrator (same
as admin) and guest. A folder is located on the C drive
and is being shared to "everyone" which is all those on
our workgroup called FPL. HOWEVER...no one can access
this file except for myself, with windows xp because I am
able to type in admin as the user and I know the
administrator password. Everyone else can not use it and
those with win 98 computers get a message that reads "You
must supply a password to make this connection,
Resource:\\server\IPC$, password: " All the win2k and xp
users get a message asking for a username and password to
access the shared folders. HOw do I change these
settings. I've been working at this for days and thought
for sure that everything is set the way it used to be.
Could someone PLEASE help me. Thank you!!!!!

Do you have the same user name and password on all computers?
Do you have file and print sharing installed on all computers?

Make sure to turn off all firewalls on your computers to test your
setup.

Assume a person logs in with user X on their computer.
User X has to exist on both the computer and the server.
If you don't want the password prompt, then user X has to have the
same password on both computer and server.

You meantion "server". Is it a real server (windows 2000 server), or
a workstation with a shared folder on it?

So you're saying that not even one computer can connect
to it because a potential of 10 "disrupts" that? I don't
think so...let's say just one computer wants to access
it. How do I do that?

You'll have to create the same user on the "server" as on the
workstation.

The simplest way would be to go to the Control Panel, run the Users
and Passwords applet on the "server".

You can also create a group on the "server" and make all the users
member of the group. This is the fastest way to accomplish this, and
everyone in the same group will have the same rights to the folder.
To do this: Control Panel / Administrative tools / System management
/ Local Users and Groups.

After that, add security permissions to the shared folder.
Right click on the shared folder.
Go to the share tab, click permissions, add / remove the users /
groups as you see fit
Goto the secruity tab, click permissions, add / remove / the users /
groups as you see fit.

IMPORTANT: Do not remove the following entries in the security tabs
(Administrators, Creator Owner, System).

An easier alternative is:
Enable the guest
account in the MMC.
Start / Settings / Control Panel / Administration Tools / Computer
Management
Click "users and groups" / "users"
double click "guest account" and uncheck the box that says disable.
