Sharing Files on Workgroup

Having a problem accessing shared folders across my home
network. The workgroup is connected with a Linksys
wireless connection.
The problem is this: from my laptop I can see my Dell
desktop computer, but to get to the shared documents
folder I have to double-click on the icon for the Dell
which presents me with a user logon dialog box (not
desirable), and I can access the folders if I logon using
the Administrator account (not even other accounts which
are in the Administrator group).

In reverse, everything works fine. I can see the Shared
Documents folder on my laptop from the Dell, and all I
have to do to access the folder and files is double-click
on it -- even from limited user accounts.

The sharing and security settings on the Shared Documents
folder on the Dell seem correct. HOWEVER, the dialog box
on the Dell that shows the Sharing and Security options
is different than the one I see on the laptop. The
dialog on the Dell does not have specific checkboxes for
sharing over the network, but rather radio buttions that
allow you to say whether you would like to share the
folder with users on the network.

Any ideas out there ?

Your best bet is to go to practicallynetworked.com and look at their
networking troubleshooters. There are some questions you did not answer in
your post, such as XP Home or Pro, what is on laptop, etc.. BIG difference,
as you may know. Sounds like you have "simple file sharing" on the Dell. If
XP Home, this is your only choice. If Pro, you have more options. Easiest
way I found to avoid log-on is to have EXACTLY the same user name and
password on all network computers (at least for your user, if you are set up
that way). This I use in a mixed environment of 98 and XP and it works fine.
Also enables XP Pro security, which I use (limit users who can see certain
folders, etc.). Funny, but XP Home does not do this as well as 98 did. Pro
does, but it can be a little confusing. All this is on the above website,
which is a big help in this kind of thing. Good luck.
