Sharing files help

I share a computer with Windows XP PRO SP1 and Word 2003 at work with a collegue. I have an administrator and a limited user account set up on this computer and my collegue has only his limited user account. Since we are currently working on a common project have agreed to save word files into the "Shared Folder" (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents) to be able to view and to edit these files. Problem is that every time I open a word file created by my collegue, Word 2003 opens it as "read-only" and if I modify the document I cannot save it with the same filename

Please advice
 
What privileges does your other user have in the shared folder? If he/she
can't delete files in that folder, Word is creating a lock file each time a
file is opened but can't delete it.

We both use Word with our "default" limited user account, so we have same privileges. Wasn't Shared Documents foder meant for sharing and exchange data between users on the same computer. If I modify a document created by my collegue I cannot save the document with the same filename.
 
I suspect that if you modify a document created by _you_ you cannot save the
document with the same filename!

If so, you both need delete and/or edit privileges. Right now, you have the
ability to create or save in that folder but not delete or edit. This is a
networking problem, not a Word problem although you've noticed it in Word.

BTW, please don't change the subject line in your replies. Doing so breaks
the "thread" for many users.

I thought that users already have all privileges in the "Shared Documents" (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents). I'll check the permissions.

I've just noticed that I used the word "Shared Folder" instead of "Shared Documents" in my first post. I apoligize for the mistake.
