Hi Finn,
For performance with large scale applications SQL Server is the route to
go. However, it's more expensive than Access. I would recommend that you
test deploy with Access as your backend. And as the need arises migrate to
SQL Server (pretty straight-forward in most cases).
As for the price of Dev tool if developing Data Access Pages then all you
need from the developer side is Office Developer (I take it your ISP will
have the backend technology).
If doing ASP.Net (the latest technology) then you would want Visual Studio
NET (for cost see:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/howtobuy/pricing.aspx)
Not sure about non-Microsoft developer tools.
DAPs use Office Web Components (OWC) which are loaded on the clients
machine. One of the drawbacks to using DAPs is that the client machine
must support OWC. I believe that eliminates MAC users and Linux (i think).
If you are looking for your web app to reach a broad range of users (not
requiring OWC) then yes ASP.Net is the route to go. Larger learning curve
but worth the effort.

| Hej Eric
| Thanks for your answer
| As I see it, you propose two ways to go - which one will
| depend on
| - performance - it will have to run on 256kb lines.
| - how easy to convert
| - price of dev-tool(I already have 2000 office developer)
| - future maintenance
| Just to make sure, I understand things right:
| Does the DAP and Access/MSSQL back-end mean, that there
| will be some sort of 'frontend-client' running on the
| users pc and database on the server ?
| The ASP.NET & Access/MSSQL is a solution, that runs only
| on the web-server, and the users access the application
| through a browser?
|
| Best regards
| Finn
