Sharing calendar on a home network

Home networking befuddles me. This may be a naive question, but ok, I'll
ask. I keep my calendar (Outlook in Office XP) on my desktop computer. Is
there an easy way I can access this calendar from my laptop computer, also
running Office XP? I have been exporting a calendar file from the desktop to
the laptop, but I'd rather just access my calendar directly. Is there a fix
for this, other than an expensive software purchase.?
