I have two employees that need simultaneous access to an
excell spreadsheet, as they are both entering data to this
sheet formost of the day. The spread sheet is located on
our windows 2000 file server and I am wondering what the
mostefficient way of sharing this file is. Occasionally
one of the users will be given an error that the spread
sheet is locked and they are unable to save changes
changes. I have Windows 2003 and am also wondering whether
this operating system on the file server would better
manage the sharing of such files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi

The version of server doesn't matter. The sharing is made by Excel, and the
only option with sharing is notify - so you are allowed to edit when first
user quits.

Whenever it's possible, give a personal excel file for every user. You can
create a summary table using links (and ODBC-query when necessary) to view
all entries together. When this isn't applicable, then think about switching
to some database system - p.e. Access - with more elaborate multi-user
support.
