Sharing Address book for the Boss

I need to suggest some possible solutions for client of mine. I don't use
Outlook that much, nor does the office in question here.

However, the owner of the business does have his contact list in Outlook.
Probably approaching 1000+ names.

Of course, it is a bit work to update and maintain this list. Further, the
boss takes his notebook with him and frequently will add some new names.

Of cause, the boss is still a paper person, and prints out the address book
in a nice format that fits into his daytimer. Often that daytimer is dropped
off to his personal assistant, and again updates are to be made to the
address book.

We need:

People (his personal assistant) to be able to add new names, and do updates
to his outlook address book file. However, the boss is on the road, and his
notebook is NOT available. Presumably when he comes back to the office we
can transfer those updates, but NOT LOOSE his current updates and additions
he has done while on the road. (we need something like replication in
ms-access!).

It would also be nice if the whole thing could work with his HotMail address
book account also. This is getting messy!

Any suggestions welcome here? They don't have exchange server running, but
if it will solve the above problem(s), then we will install it just for him.

And, if we can have both the office and the boss both update Outlook, then I
will suggest he start using a pocket pc...as then updates from that would
eventually get back to the office..and vice versa.

Yoicks. Exchange would be ideal - would resolve this issue and give you a
lot more besides, but installing it for just one person seems a bit
excessive to me - and it isn't cheap, requires quite a bit of expertise to
set up and maintain, etc - do you have a client/server network set up
already with a domain in this office?

All the other sharing/syncing solutions I know of are here:

....but the fact that he takes his laptop with him makes it problematic.

Re hotmail syncing - I don't believe this is possible, but there is
Intellisync for Yahoo address books. I would not make this a two-way sync,
however, as something might get lost in the translation somewhere.
