Sharing a Roadrunner Connection

I have 2 computers running Windows XP Home Edition.. Service Pack 2. They are
connected, and I am able to share info on both computers, so my LAN is
working. I had Roadrunner installed on one of the computers, and would like
to be able to share the Roadrunner connection. My Roadrunner is with Time
Warner and connects thru a cable modem. I have read various articles and have
just gotten more confused. Some say I need a router, some say a hub, some say
a proxy server, some say I don't need anything. Would appreciate any
suggestions. Thanks

All of those methods can do what you want.

For most people, the best setup is to get a home broadband router.
Connect the cable modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port, and
connect the computers to its LAN ports. The router will give the
computers simultaneous, independent access to the Internet.

Another possibility is to keep the cable modem connected to the first
computer and enable Internet Connection Sharing to let the other
computer share it. That would require two network adapters in the
first computer and network hardware to connect the computers to each
other. The first computer would have to be turned on whenever the
other computer wants to access the Internet.

First determine if Roadrunner permits cxoncurrent connections - most likely
they do.

Options: 1. Set up ICS (Internet Sharing) - computer "Help" option provides
details. Disadvantage is that the computer connected to the cable modem
must be on for second computer to access the internet.

2. The best option is to use a router. Modeern day routers provide both
wireless and wired capability. The cable modem is connected to the router
and does not require a "host" computer (one sharing the connection).
In addtion it provides for connecting additional computers. Installation of
a router is generally straight forward.
