Sharing a folder ... I'm SO frustrated

I simply want to share a folder in Vista B2 to other computers on my local
network. In the past (XP & Win2K) I share the folder and assign permissions
to the share and the folder. I use the same account and password on all
machines and I am able to connect with no problems.

With Vista, this is not working. I've turned off every security setting I
can find and I'm still unable to connect. "\\Test01\Share is not
accessible, You may not have permissions...." "Unknown username or bad
password "

What in the world is necessary to share a #@%! folder on Vista and connect
to it from an XP machine? Just what do I have to do?

And why can't I access the advanced settings in network connections folder?
"Access Denied" ..

Sorry for the duplicates.. The site said there was an error posting and to
try again later... Seems thats nothing "windows" ever works properly...
 
Microsoft has lots of things that work. Their support
website is not one of them. I don't understand why they
haven't fixed it, quite a pathetic thing. The largest software
company in the world, ready to make huge bets on web
based technology, and they can't seem to fix a simple posting
bug. Sad.

Does the Vista PC show itself, if you goto Network Places from an XP PC, and does the XP PC show from Start>Network, from the Vista PC?

In Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network File and Printer
Sharing, make sure Network Access is set to anyone with an account on this
computer, and NOT "Anyone who can connect to my network".

If you have a workgroup named something like home... then you have to
manually change it or it is named "workgroup" as your workgroup by default.
As for the access issue.. As with previous posts, again this is probably a
local admin problem... Technically no one is really a true administrator
until all prompts and user securities are disabled in the security settings
panel... (start/run/secpol.msc/local policies/security options/scroll to
bottom) and then going into control panel and changing you account to an
admistrator manually. I initially thought i was an admin but your really
only a local admin by default. Go figure! Plus it gets rid of all those
annoying pop up warnings.
