Shared Workbook Options

Does anyone know of any other options besides the standrad Shared Workbook
feature in excel to share a workbook? The workings of the shared workbook
feature are perfect for our uses, but it seems to like to crash our
spreadsheet often. Is there an add-on, or a program we can buy to supplement
this type of thing?
