I have an XP with crossover cable to a 98SE. Thanks to MUCH good counsel
from this group, it works very well. Is there any way I can pull up the 98
screen simultaneously on the XP?

Install a remote control program on both computers, running it as a
server on 98SE and a client on XP. Here are some possibilities:

www.realvnc.com
www.tightvnc.com
