We recently got a MAC G5 with OSX and are trying to integrate it with
our Windows network. We have several servers all of which show up when
you click the Network Icon, we can drill down into every one except
the one we want, which does not display any of the shared folders on
that server. I have even attempted to create a folder from the MAC,
which it appears to do, but I can't find it on the server.

Knowing nothing about MAC's (other than they cost alot more than PC's
and the Art department had to have one) I'm unsure if I need to load
anything special on the server, all my servers seem to be configured
the same but ???

Thanks

Nu

Hi Nu!

I'm going to guess that you're using Mac OS X 10.3 and that when you are
accessing the server through the network you're starting at the Network icon
on the Mac and drilling through the network from there.

Try mounting the server instead. This is almost like mapping a drive where
you are making a persistent connection to the server. I've found it more
reliable.

In the Finder on the Mac choose Connect from the Go menu. You can either
browse the network to locate the server or if you know its DNS name or IP
address you can enter "smb://servername". Optionally, you can use
"afp://servername" if you're server is running Mac File Services.

When you mount the server volume, you'll see it appear at the same level as
your Mac's volumes and can access files from here.

Hope this helps! bill
