First off, I would strongly recommend dumping XP (eithor
flavor) in a buisness environment. Use W2kPro and you'll
be able to sleep at night.
However, if you must, one thing I always do is check the
nic adapter power management (via network control panel).
XP by default turns the nic off to save power, which
disconnects everything. Real pain in the but, and so
unnecessary.
Check that first.
Also, check timing. You should run some form of NTP on
your internal network, even if you set it on the
autoexec.bat. I have my user OS's use the DC, and then
port the DC to my core router, which synchronizes with a
public NTP. Especially in domain environment, net clock
slips will drive you insane.
Let me know how you make out.
