Shared Printer

There is a small network with a Windows 2000 Pro box that
has a printer attached to it that is shared as Okidata.
Three workstations on the network print to that printer
using a "lan manager printer services" port. They all
print fine. A fourth computer connects to the printer and
is listed as a lpt1 port. This prints fine in all
programs except one. How can I set it up to use a "lan
manager printer services" port also? I can not seem to
find anything for that type of port.

What is the LanMan Port name? These are created by the spooler when making
non RPC connections to devices that support SMB or netbios.

On the forth machine Click Start, Run...
then enter the printer server name that is listed on the other machine. If
the forth machine can browse to the printer server device it will open an
explorer window with the print shares listed. Right click and connect and
you will get the LAN Manager Printer Port.

here are examples of two printers that support SMB.
\\hp3800cp\Print
\\clc1000\Print

If the machine cannot browse to the print server device, compare the
protocols installed on the machines. Newer devices support this over
TCP/IP. Some older devices require other protocols.
