Shared Folders takes ages to react: shared folders == music folders?

On my computer I was already wondering since long about a couple of folders which, when opened, always take forever and a day, until they react, i.e. until one can click into them and start working with them or select items in them. What I also noted about these folders was, that they all show a big bluish music note in the lower right corner and that XP apparently considers them as folders containing (potentially) music and thus displays columns "Artist", "Album Title", etc. instead of the normal "Type" and "Size".

I now just realized, that this seems to have to do with the fact, that these folders are shared, i.e. shared folders seem to be automatically considered as music folders! ||-(

Can one suppress this nonsense? I do NOT share any music folders on this machine, so XP should NOT consider shared folders as potential music/photo/video or whatever special folders but just as "normal" folders.

Any setting or registry tweak that disables this "feature"?

Hi Michael,

This may help:

One of my special folders (e.g. My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, Shared
Documents, etc) has lost its name, lost its icon, or has the wrong Task Pane
template, how can I get it back?

Folders - Special

For reasons unknown, some users find that drives or system folders display
the wrong tasks relative to the folder contents. The C: drive may display
music tasks; The 'My Music' folder may display picture tasks, etc. While
user-created folders allow access to the 'Customize' tab in the 'Properties'
dialog, drives and system folders do not give you this option.

Open the folder, right click the desktop.ini and open it in Notepad. Verify
these settings: Change the Owner Name

My Music

[DeleteOnCopy]
Owner=Kelly
Personalized=13
PersonalizedName=My Music
[.ShellClassInfo]
[email protected],-12689
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
IconIndex=-237

My Pictures

This helped! Oh - how wonderful! What a relief! That tedious waiting time each and every time after opening such folders is gone! Things are back to normal!

I owe you!

Cheers and thanks,
Michael
