Hi!

Ok. Right to the problem.

We have one simple domian and one seperate workgroup. A
2000 user in the workgroup wants to access a shared folder
off an XP user in the domain. The rights on the XP shared
folder in the domain allow everyone to access it with full
rights. I have even gone as far as to give the workgroup
user an account locally on the XP machine. When he tried
to connect it asks him for a username and pw. When he
gives it the information it denies him access.

Everyone in the domain can access this folder. The 2000
user can access other shared non-XP folders in the domain
but just not the XP shared folder.

He claims he has been able to access this folder before
with the current setup, but suddenly it has stopped
working. Everything looks to be set correctly.

Umm....Help.

Thanks you!

Did you setup that user on the domain? If the WinXP
machine is part of the domain it gets the security
information such as share security from the domain
controller. So if the domain controller doesn't know
about the user its not going to let you connect.

To get around this you need to check the folowing. In the
security tab not the sharing tab is the user listed. What
you should see is (machinename)\username. If not you
should add them. I believe that the everyone group is
specific to the domain security policy and not machine
when it comes to shares. Then check the sharing tap for
the share and make sure that they are added in the
permissions. Try again and see if that works.

Hope this helps.
