Shared folder access

I have a network of about 10 computers. Most are XP but
one is Win2K. Everyone is set up with a shared folder that
works like an inbasket for everyone else on the NW to use.
The problem is that the Win2K machine requires that every
one accessing the shared folder also have a logon and
password to the computer. In otherwords, unlike XP, just
setting a folder to share doesn't let other people on the
network access it unless the person has a username and
password on that Win2K machine and has logged on.

There must be a simple way to handle this??

I believe that in a non domain XP uses simple file sharing and guest
authentication by default. If that is acceptable to you then try enbling the
guest account on the W2K computer. The guest account can be convenient to
use in a very small network where all users are trusted but can be a huge
security hole if exposed to the internet, so be sure to use a properly
configured firewall if you have internet access. -- Steve

Thanks Steve,
I didn't see an "enable Guest account" type setting so I
made up an account and assigned it to the user group of
Guest.

Still doesn't work. Am puzzled. I have another Win 2K
machine on this network and everybody gets onto it just
fine I don't know what the deal is with this other machine.

Steve,

Thanks. Your suggest led to a solution. You won't believe
but the user in a confusion had renamed the Guest Account
to the name of "Administrator"(!!) and then had disabled
it. I cleaned it up, set it back up as Guest account and
enabled and it works fine. Whew!

Thanks for your help.
