Shared drive access issue with machine name\user name

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to map a shared drive to my computer (both machines run
windows xp pro) but everytime i attempt to log in with my username and
password, say joe_bloggs and whatever, after i click to login, windows
prepends my machinename, mighty_laptop so now the username is
mighty_laptop\joe_bloggs which of course is wrong so i am denied
access to the shared drive.

Anyone any ideas how i stop windows from adding unneccessarily to the
username?

Start, Control Panel, User Accounts, Change an account. I think.
