Is there any way to share a printer (that is attached to a workstation)
twice under two different names?

Install the same printer a second time, then share it
under a different name.

I don't think that's quite what I'm looking for.

As part of an interface with a cad program, I'm trying to send plot
files to a network printer using lpr (I *can* use windows print manager
from within the application but there are some disadvantages - in the
context of the cad program - to doing that).

I get an error as follows:

D:\plotters>lpr -S 192.168.0.11 -P "HP Laserjet 3100" test.txt

Error: print server unreachable or specified printer does not exist.

(Not a very helpful error message given that the print-server and
printer are the only two items in the command (the file test.txt does
exist).

The server machine certainly exists and can be seen across the network
and I'm logged in as administrator (with the same password) on both the
sending machine and the server machine). I also tried referring to the
server by its name but got the same error message. The printer involved
can be used, in the normal windows printing fashion, by any machine on
the network.

I thought perhaps the length of the printer-name and/or the embedded
spaces was a problem and that it might be safer, in fact, to use an
8-character-or-less name. I didn't want to test that by renaming the
existing share because it would affect every other machine on the
network. I'd hoped I could just set up another share on the same printer
to try it out.

In the event, I'll try Pegasus's suggestion and install another instance
of the same printer
