Networking XP and W98SE in a workgroup.
I am sharing folders on the XP machine as well on the W98.
The shares are avilable on the W98. The XP is visable and
answers ping.
When I try to connect to the shares I get "You must enter
a password to enter"
\}\computername\IPC$
Q262916 suggest to start Net logon service. But, this
service will not start unless the computer is connected to
a domain.

How do I solve this?

Run the Network Setup Wizard on XP to fully enable file sharing.
That's all that's usually needed.

If you've created a password for the Guest account on XP, enter that
password at the IPC$ prompt.
