Share Folder Or Disk, which is better?

Hello, I am a 2003 newbie, so please bear with me.

I have setup a new 2003 server. I have one disk partition that will store
all of the data.
Should I create a main folder and share the folder, or is it okay to share
the entire disk?

My goal is to avoid a lengthy path. Example, the computer is called
FILESERVER. The folder being shared is called FILEDATA. There exists
several folders in this main folder called PROJECTS and USERS.

If a user needs a file, they need to connect to
\\FILESERVER\FILEDATA\USERS\SMITH

Is this a normal path? If I share the disk, the path could be
\\FILESERVER\USERS\SMITH.

Which is better?
Thank you in advance.

If you want short paths why not share the folders individually? Otherwise no
matter what you do you going to have something like
\\server\sharename\users\crap

But i'd create a folder and share that instead of the drive. I just prefer
it that way. It feels safer :)
