Share apps in dual boot?

This probably can't be done, but I thought I'd ask:

I have successfully set up a dual boot Win 98SE/XP system using
Partition Magic and Boot Magic. Neither OS can see the other, but the
applications and data partitions can be seen by both.

To save disk space, is it possible to install apps so that the
executable files etc. can be shared? If so, what dangers am I asking
for?

Call me crazy if you want. :)

Thanks,
Rick

You'll need to install the application in each OS to the same shared partition. Uninstalls and updates might create problems though. You might find it easier to just keep your documents on a shared partition and the applications on each OS partition.

Because of the architecture of the 2 operating systems, you'd need to
install the software under both systems. The operating system registers the
files necessary to run the programs. The different OS's will, in some cases,
register different files or in a different structure. 98 and XP are built
completely different from different root beginnings.
Now, if you were dual booting between say 2 installs of 98, that were set up
for different uses, you could actually install the software under both OS's,
and direct the software to install to the same directory. But, that can have
its pitfalls too.

After saying all that, NO. Don't do it. :)
