Yes because most scanner manufacturers don't make a driver for their scanner
that supports sharing.
A user would have to go to the scanner, put the document in, go back to
their desk, scan, go back to the scanner and retrieve the document. A real
pain if they are on separate floors.
Most people solve this by setting up a central scanner where users come to
scan documents and save the scan to a network drive accessible to them from
their computer.
This way they bring the document to the scanner, scan the document and save
it to their network file, then carry the original document back to their
desk when done.
