Hi Bob I; Yes, I have restarted both computers. Windows 2000 PC first and
then the Windows XP PC. I tried once more to connect the shared printer and
still it fails. Any other suggestions? Thanks...
:
You have restarted the systems after all the changes were made to the
Names and passwords and workgroup.

Hi Bob I; Yes both PC's have the same Workgroup name. I had cahnged the
Workgroup name on the Windows 2000 PC to match the Windows XP PC. They are
both set to "MSHOME".

Do BOTH PC's have the SAME Workgroup name?

Hi Richard; Okay I tried turning off the XP Firewall, but it still asks for a
Username and Password and still fails to connect. Boy this is frustrating.
Anything else to try? Thanks...
:
Temporarily disable the XP firewall and see if you can connect to the
printer at that point.

Hi Richard; The Windows 2000 PC doesn't have any Firewall. The Windows XP
PC
have the Windows Security Center and under the Windows Firewall Exceptions
"File and Printer Sharing" is checked. This means that File and Printer
Sharing is NOT blocking incoming connections so I should be able to
connect
to the shared Printer connected to the Windows 2000 PC. This is my
understanding. What do I check for next. Thanks....
:
Do you have firewall software running on either computer?

Thanks Richard; Okay I created the new User with the same Username and
Password that is used on the Windows Xp PC and gave the permissions as
Administrator. Same problem. When you try to add the shared printer, it
still
asks for Username and Password which doesn't work. Anymore more
suggestions
please.
:
From the Control Panel, open up the Users tool.

Sorry, I need instructions on how to create a User on the Windows
2000
PC.
How do I do this? Thanks...
:
Create a user on the Windows 2000 computer that has the same name
and
password that are used to log onto the Windows XP computer.

I have a Lexmark Z33 USB connected printer which is connected to a
Windows
2000 PC and I have shared this Printer as LexmarkZ33. When I try
to
connect
to the Printer from a Windows XP PC, it asks for a Username and
Password.
The
Windows 2000 PC is logged in with a Username of Administrator
with
no
password. I have tried that and get a meesage that Windows cannot
find
the
printer. Can someone direct me to the instructions for sharing a
Printer
connected to a Windows 2000 PC and then connecting it to a
Windows
XP
PC.
Thanks....
