shape not resizing in PPT2007

I am trying to resize a simple rectangle auto shape. As I try to make it
taller than .39", it always reverts back to this size if I subsequently try
to resize it. IF I use the sizing chunk on the format tab in the ribbon, it
will maintain a larger height. But, if I grab the sizing corner, it snaps
back to .39â€. If I hold down the ALT key while dragging, it reverts back to
..39â€. Snap to grid and snap to objects are turned off.

I noticed when I was saving as a .ppt, this particular slide I am struggling
with did come up with a warning “The grouped shapes and any text in it cannot
be edited when using earlier versions of PowerPoint.†In case this was a
factor, I changed the file to a .pptx which did not help either.

I saw another post from earlier this year on this forum, but the issue
disappeared when the user saved, closed, reopened. This is not the case for
me; the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Hi

I would try adding some text to the rectangle -> right click -> format
autoshape -> textbox -> ensure 'resize autoshape to fit text' is not ticked.
Then resize the box & remove the text.

thanks Lucy. This did work. I can resize by just dragging and it retains the
size, not snapping back to the .39" height.

My followup question is...why did this become an issue when the autoshape in
question is not intended to hold text?

Thanks again for the support.

Hi

I'm not entirely sure but I would imagine at some point you had a text box
set with the autosize option and then right click -> set as default. It may
even be the default for PowerPoint - I don't know as I change my default
settings for autoshapes about 3 times each time I create a presentation :-)

Lucy,
I saw that you help solves someone's problem with sizing a box to the text.
I am using a PPT2007 Org Chart file. If I try to size the text box it snaps
back.
Right click, Format, Text Box, my Do Not Autofit is checked off and "grayed
out" I cannot turn autofit back on??

Hi Andy

Autofit is on by default for SmartArt Org charts (that's what you are using,
right?). Sorry, it's early in the morning and I'm a bit confused - could you
explain exactly what you want to happen and exactly what is happening? Are
you saying you can't resize individual shapes? Or that you have and now you
want them all the same again?

Need more coffee....

Lucy
