It is shameful......IE 6 not being able to work after XP SP2 installation..
It's fine on my PC, but not on my Toshiba Laptop..

There have been enough complaints that Microsoft can't claim ignorance on
this one!!!!!

So, I'm using Netscape on my laptop, but I can't get anymore XP updates...

Come to think of it, maybe that's a good thing

What is stopping you?
I have several Toshiba laptops with SP2 and they all work fine with IE.
Give some more detail!

Most of us are recommending that those with laptops, especially older ones,
contact the manufacturer for info on upgrading to SP2. I would not upgrade
until I got an "all clear" from the manufacturer as well as download links
for any model-specific drivers which SP2 would require.

I would have to say that posts I've seen about problems with Toshiba laptops
and SP2 have outnumbered those with other laptops by a wide margin.

We similarly discourage laptop owners from formatting and installing a
retail version of Windows until they have the necessary, laptop-specific
files and drivers on hand which will be needed.

In addition you may have had some "malware" already installed on the laptop.
Users of any PC should not install SP2 without being certain the machines
are malware free.

it's so nice that microsofty released a service pack
without proper consultation with software manufacturers and
roll out time to fix bugs.
and then there is compaq...,,, having patches ,so the
spyware that comes bundled in the machine will still
work.,.,.,,, shows that a little bit more security is in
service pack 2 .,,.,,.,,.,
anyone know the count on how many systems were
killed by sp2??? a rough count would seem to be at least
half a million.

Care to provide some figures or is this another wild statement without
substance?

As you say the margin is 'wide', it shouldn't be difficult to give absolute
numbers, no percentages please.

Microsoft consulted with manufacturers extensively over a year or more.
It's not MS' fault if those firms didn't sort their acts out and advise
customers accordingly, or customers were too lazy to pay attention!!!!.
Likewise MS were advising the public to prepare through the media and
through newsletters and with links on Windows Update for at least a year
prior to the release of SP2 and outlined specific things to look at and do.

My dear Bear... Thank you.. I've been following the threads for some time
now and have tried just about all fixes.... I am an IT pro myself...

I just think that MS should guarantee its product.. I use NO junk in my
system.. Am behind a firewall, use my computers for work and not play. I
practice very clean computing and etc etc etc.. The problem lies not with
me, sir.

I just believe that if the Toshiba product worked before the upgrade, then
it should work AFTER upgrade.. It is MICROSOFT'S responsibility, not
Toshiba's to ensure that the software works..

My 2 cents

Hi Adam...

I am IT pro... Have 2 computers...PC and Toshiba Satellite 1800.. Use
Firewall, router, ADSL... Work machines, not games... Clean computing,
very..Too many people counting on me.

ADSl... PC made the upgrad flawlessly... So did the Toshiba, except that IE
gets Page will not display and won't connect.. so I can't get updates..
Email (Eudora) works, and so does, ftp, and so does Netscape..

Uninstalled SP2... IE works.. Installed SP2 again... IE doesn't work (on
Toshiba)... I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS..

As a professional with a very high sense of integrity (PhD fellow from
McGill University) I would not allow myself to excuse this kind of behaviour
on my part if I offered you a buggy product.

My 2 cents

I disagree. Neither MS nor any other software provider could ever stand by
such a guarantee, given the vagueries of how a user treats the system.

No, as you said, it's just another of my wild statements, Ed. I'm talking
out of my hat and have *never* seen anyone posting about SP2 problems with
Toshiba laptops (nor have I had any customers in the same fix).

I *will* accede to the fact that there's a helluva lotta Toshiba laptops out
there, though, and that the fact may skew the numbers.

Pee-yew. Excuuuuuuse us, *Doctor*! If you don't have time for this, better
get your abacus out again.

(And your CA 2 cents is worth about 1.4 cents here.)
