PPT 2003

What is the difference between the "S" toolbar button for making a shoadow
and the shoadow tools controls within the drawing toolbar. How can the
shadow be "on" in the drawing tool shadow commands but off when i look at
the "S"....and vice versa..

Is this a simple thing i'm missing?

Hi,

That's a good question! From what I just read, both work on text, at least
in 2003. But it seems the Formatting toolbar one may have originally been
for text, and the Drawing toolbar one was originally for objects.

? :-)

Kathy? Echo?

The "S" button toggles simple shadows on TEXT and the
Shadow Settings button creates and edits shadows on
SHAPES. HOWEVER...when a shape containing text has a
SHAPE shadow turned on, AND that shape has NO FILL --
shadows appear behind its text as well. If you need a
shadow on the shape, but not the text, give the shape a
FILL.

Well, the "S" shadow on the formatting toolbar applies only to text. It
uses the color you specified in your color scheme for the text shadow
(3rd swatch), and you have no other control over this aside from
changing the color scheme.

The Shadow button on the Drawing toolbar is primarily (I guess?) for
applying shadows to objects, although I sure do use it for text as well.
It allows you much more control over the shadow specifications --
direction, distance and color -- so it's much more flexible.

And what Chas Go said about shadows on text in objects with a fill is
exactly correct.
