In my Event Viewer under Systems I found this message.

The protected system file c:\windows\system32\es.dll
could not be verified as valid because Windows File
Protection is terminating. Use the SFC utility to verify
the integrity of the file at a later time.

Should I go into Command Prompt and run this Utility?. My
system has been crashing lately, mostly when I am in
Paint Pro 8.10. By running this Utility will it create
more problems than solving any? I have tried several
things to keep my system from crashing but it still does.
I was hoping this utility would fix my problem. Thanks
John

Hi John,

Running SFC simply verifies the integrity of the system files. It should not
harm anything. It will replace those found to be corrupted or missing.
Start/run "sfc /scannow" to begin. You may need both your WinXP CD (or know
where on your hard drive the I386 folder is) and where the ServicePackFiles
folder is (from installing SP1).
