...requires me to insert the XP Pro SP2 CD? - sorry, but I only have XP Home SP2! ..never had XP Pro installed on my box.

wth? - ideas?

Thanks all, I realised I had the XP CD in the wrong drive. Once changed sfc accepted my XP Home CD and went on. However, it is very confusing that sfc wants to see the XP *Pro* SP2 CD even it works with XP Home as well.

Is this a marketing trick :)

Yes. I've see that prompt (in XP Home systems) when the i386 folder is not
available in the hard drive.
