I keep getting an error when I try to use sfc. I tells me
that I need windows 2000 pro cd 2. The problem is that we
have xp home. I guess I need to tell you how we got to
this point.We went out and bought the upgraded version of
xp home. we have 98se. A friend of mine has been
certified as a A+ tech. He was helping us to upgrade our
old pc. we gave him the xp home cd to put on our new hard
drive. I asked him if he needed to put 98se on first to
upgraded to the xp home. he told us no he just need our
code for it. he said that he used the drop down menu
(where it asks if you want to upgrade) and he did a full
install. I wanted to use what is now called sfc in xp to
correct some files that have gotten corrupt or missing.
It was easy in 98se to do this. So how do I use it
correctly in xp home? I really don't want to wipe out the
drive and start again unless I have to. thank you for
your time in this matter.

If you know what files have been corrupted then you can restore them with
MSCONFIG.
Run MSCONFIG and look at the General tab for a button Expand File.
From here you can restore individual files.

The problem is I'm not sure which files are corrupt. I

know when i want to change my mouse pointers it tells me
it's corrupt or missing. also, when ever i turn on the
computer my incredimail tells me that i'm not running the
correct flash version and our home pages tells me the
same thing. I download the flash version and happens
sometimes everytime I turn the pc on or everyother time.
Thats why I wanted to know about sfc. It worked very well
when we had 98se. I only had to reinstall when our hard
drives went bad and we received new ones.
