Is it normal for this command to return "corrupt" on nearly every file and
demand the 2k Pro CD? I have two machines with no apparent faults, fully
functional, that have done the above ever since SP2. Both machines are now
SP4, with no change - still functional. Is the intent really to roll back to
gold and make your reinstall your SPs?

I'm relieved to hear rumors of their demise were premature. It's just that I
got no reply to this of the 16th....

In other words, it's just that SFC/scannow is saying everything is "corrupt."
The machines have no real problem. Common? Reason? WAD?

Thanks for the pointer. The kb article is optimistic. My SP4 system still
keeps requesting the original CD, and I have a Alt-F4 exercise to get the
command to cancel. Then I must pop down 10-20 "insert CD" cascading msgboxes.
I'm not about to explore this further, for obvious reasons.

Someone should escalate this. 'Tain't fixed.

Thanks, Jim. Those pages certainly taught me a lot about the structure of
SFC/dllcache/setupdir(s) in XP and 2k, but didn't directly affect anything..
The latest batch of .DLLs in ...\system32\dllcache are 3/23/04 on both 2000
Workstation machines, which may be about right (April patches were installed).

SP 2 and 3 were installed online via WinUpdate, SP4 by CD, if that helps
anyone in Redmond.

I wonder whether SFC needs a /SCANONLY [>DUMP.FIL] switch, for puzzling cases
like mine.
