I'm trying to fix a corrupted Windows XP setup using SFC /SCANNOW but I keep
getting a prompt to insert the SP3 CD. I don't have a SP3 CD (it was updated
over the internet like the other 99.5% of SP3 updates)

How can I fix this so SFC will work and not look for a CD? There is a
C:\i386 folder and the HKLM\.... settings were changed to show the
sourcepath = c:\ and the \WINDOWS NT\ sourcepath also to C:\i386 yet every
time I run SFC / SCANNOW I get this CD prompt.

Any assistance to get around this is appreciated.

If you have access to another PC with SP3 downloaded, you can slipstream an
installation CD with your original CD and the expanded SP3 file. Check it
out here:

It works well.

Go to the MS site, find the SP3 file, and download it. There will be
two possibilities: One for your model and one for ALL models, which is
a LOT bigger than the other one. Download it, put it on a CD for
safekeeping, and send the program to it when it asks for it.

You need to Slipstream a SP3 service pack into your existing
Windows CD in order to get around the error message.

Just download SP3 from the downloads area & burn it to CD. When it asks
for it, put that CD in.
