All SFC is is a small narrow window with a Cancel button and progress bar.
There is nothing else. How do we get it to do anything but run a scan of
some kind and then close by itself? It's called "Windows File Protection"
when it opens, not "System File Checker". I cut and pasted sfc /scannow as
you said to do.

While I can't tell you how to use sfc on your machine;
if you have a dll you want to replace
use search to find all copies of the 'bad dll'

you seem to know where the good dll is,
copy it to your hard drive in a safe place.

Manually replace the dll with the good one by using copy and paste.
If the bad dll is in use see if you can do this in the 'command box.
Stop as many tasks as you can and try copy again.

If all of that fails, build a dos bootable floopy and boot to it and
replace the file.

There is a place in the registry that tells SFC where the cd is,
if you copy the cd to disk, you can alter the path in the registry
to have sfc read from there for replacement.

Unfortunately I can't tell you what the registry setting is, anyone
????

good luck,

Hemlock
