I am working with Dell Optiplex GX260 machines Windows
2000 Pro SP3 on a network. I am having an error appear at
the end of the Network installation process "Access
Denied" then it tells me to revert back to the previous
start by using the emergency repair process. I have
contacted Dell and they refered me to Microsoft. Know I
need help on resolving this issue.

Joe ...

I am guessing you may be seeing registry permission problems. You can
track this down using REGMON from sysinternals
(http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml). Run Regmon, try
to install the service pack again, and then search the log for ACCESS
DENIED. This will give you an idea of where to start looking to give less
restrictive permissions.

Of course, you should be an administrator when installing the service pack
and your system drive should have system and administrators FULL CONTROL
pushed all the way to insure you are not looking at a folder permission
issue.

Hope this helps.

As an add-on to Brittens advice, you can also look into the svcpack.log and
setupapi.log's to see if the registry key is listed. Scroll all the way to
the bottom of the log and you may notice the keys.
