hi

i resently intalled a new seagate 160 hard drive. but my win 2000 is only
reading 137Gs. I read that if i had service pack 3 or higher it should be
able to read the full 160Gs. is there something im missing? i got service
pack 4 installed

thanks

thanks for the reply, i did the "add value" thing in the registry that was
on that site and still window is not reading full capacity of drive. i have
a SATA hard drive does that make any difference? im not sure what a ATAPI
disk drive is, if it applies to the SATA ones as well.

with so many HD that are over 137Gig you think this would be just plug and
play.

also when i went into the BIOS i there was a settign beside my HD that was
set on "auto" detect, i changed that to "LBA" i dont know if thats somethign
i should have done or not...

thanks

hi, no i havent tried updating the BIOS, is there a way to check if my
current BIOS version is compatable?...somehting i should look for in the
BIOS maybe?...i dont want to go thru an update if its not necessary

thanks

To have more than 137 the operating system AND the motherboard must
support it. I gave you the info for the operating system. Does the BIOS
show > 137 when you boot the computer? If not contact the motherboard
manufacturer.

i was hoping not to have to partition the drive but it looks like thats the
only solution at the moment

thanks for you help

update:
finally got all 160 Gig to display...in the image i attached in previous
message there was a 25+ Gig unallocated space, i guess there was 2
partitions one allocated and teh 25 gig unallocated, i deleted the partition
and reallocated the 160Gig, and now its showing the full drive!

Good to hear you have achieved your goal!
