since installing .net frameworks i have several programs which can no longer
see the internet. i am on a dsl conection. internet explorer has no trouble
finding it but media player can not. neither can dungeon siege and guild
wars. they had no trouble before instalation of the framework. my question is
how do i give programs acess if they dont have it? oh, my system is running
windows 98SE with all the updates.

I know of nothing in the Framework that would cause this, although 98SE may
have some other dependencies (security patches?) before installing the
Framework. I would look at firewall settings first, as both Dungeon Siege and
WMP use ports other than port 80 (don't remember the ports off hand). Port
filtering is a likely cause of the issue.

thanks, since i have no firewall running now or when i installed frameworks,
i suspect that is the port filtering you spoke of. i have installed all the
security patches ect at windows update so couuld those be the cause? i get
the impression that somthing got changed when framwork was installed. i'm
tempted to just wipe the drive and reinstall the system. its a fresh install
so not much will be lost.
