Hi
using outlook 2003
Is it possible to set up a schedule backup for mail, contacts &
calendar?

Sure, just configure your backup software accordingly, as you would for your
normal data backups.
The outlook data files are *.pst, generally the backup will fail if the
Outlook is open

Sure. It may be as simple as periodically copying your data store, either
manually or by a batch job or by using the Microsoft-supplied Personal
Folders Backup utility. What type of account are you using?

Martin,

I have simply relocated the .pst file to a folder under Documents (Vista) or
My Documents (XP), it is then backed up with my normally scheduled backup.
No extra backup necessary.

That's a good solution Charles
How do you automate/schedule/backup your .pst file in the first place?

Use Microsoft's tool [1] to backup your pst-file in that all your
contacts, calendar, emails etc. are stored. You can configure the tool
to backup your pst-file when closing Outlook, e. g. every two days.
