Steve

I bought a linksys router to connect my computer upstairs
to a computer downstairs that is already connected to the
internet. I have the router connected between the modem
and the original computer and am able to access the
internet, but once I try to go through the network setup
wizard, it keeps failing with an unspecfic error message.
I have set up a network in Win 2000, but never in XP so
this may just be an input error. Any advice or resources
you could point out would be appreciated.

Here's what the Wizard would do if it ran. You can make the same
settings manually:

1. Set the computer name, computer description, and workgroup name
that you specify.
2. Install these network components if they're not already present:
a. Client for Microsoft Networks
b. TCP/IP
c. File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
3. Share any printers connected to the computer.
4. Create the "Shared Documents" folder if it doesn't exist.
5. Share the "Shared Documents" folder.
6. Configure the local area network connection to obtain an IP
address automatically.
