I installed W2K AS into a compuer with all default options except for when was asked to

join a domain or enter a group. Since this is the only server being installed, so I had to enter a group name

Then ran Active Directory wizard, selected new domain tree and forest, entered DNS name, doman name etc..

The installation was completed without any problem. So the new server became a PDC

Finally rebooted the computer and login to it with Aministrator name, password, and domain

But when login to the server from either WIN98 or WinXP client, it sai

"A domain controller for the domain 'xxxx' could not be contacted...

I know the server and clients are phsically connected without problem

When worked with Message Queuing service in the domain server, I saw a red cross sign.

When clicked and refreshed the Public Queue, I go

"Unable to display all public queues. Only public queues cached locally can be displayed
Error: the operation is not supported for a WORKGROUP installation computer

Can you tell problems and how to fix

thank

There is no such thing as a PDC in the W2K network architecture. What you
should have is a rootDC which holds the 5 FSMO roles.

Win98 needs to both resolve to W2K DC as well as provide valid user
credentials. XP needs to resolve DC, requires a computer account and a user
account.

So start by creating a domain user account on domain, configure both clients
to participate in domain namespace (user-level security), on Win98 either
specify the DC's ip_address in lmhost file or point tcp/ip to a DNS server,
on XP specify the DNS server or modify hosts file appropriately.

Login at the stations as the new user, specify an account that has the right
to create a computer account on the domain when prompted while connecting
with XP.
I know the server and clients are phsically connected without problem.

We don't know that, are static ip_addresses used and can you PING each
other?
