I've tried every command after hitting the F8 button which seemed to offer
some hope and things have simplified a bit. After cycling normally now I
only get the "setup is restarting..." screen then the screen goes black for
a second and flashes a writing error or a dismount error code; it's hard to
read it because it flashes so quickly then disappears. I got several pages
of suggestions from the link you first offered. do you have any other
suggestions that might prove helpful and simpler? I'd be most grateful.

Hi, Everett.

We'll have a much better chance to help you if you continue a coherent
thread, rather than starting a fresh conversation with each post. :>(

I see you are using Outlook Express. To continue a conversation, click
Message | Reply to Group, or press Ctrl+G. (Or you can do what I did long
ago: right-click on the Toolbar, click Customize, then add a button for
Reply Group to your Toolbar. You might find several other useful buttons to
add, as well.)

When you click Message, you will see several choices, including Reply to
Sender, Reply to All and Reply to Group. Reply to Group posts your message
here and "threads" it so that it becomes a part of an ongoing conversation.
Reply to Sender sends an email message to the user who posted the message
to which you are replying; this is generally considered a breach of
Netiquette unless the sender has specifically invited email, or unless the
subject of your message veers from the topic of the newsgroup. Reply to All
sends your message to BOTH the group and the sender; this is seldom the
right choice.

Also, it would help if you click Tools | Options... and on the Send tab,
check the box to Include message in reply. This way, the reader can see the
prior message and understand the context of your latest post - just as your
prior message is quoted below my signature here.

I found your earlier posts and the response from Thorsten Matzner by
clicking on the header for the From column here. But they are disjointed
and don't make a continuing thread. And there's not much hope that Thorsten
will see your latest message, even if he clicks View | Current View | Show
Replies to my Messages.

Hi
I would hate to be the one with bad news but i had nearly same problem only
3 weeks ago and i was stuck in that loop and i had to restore my computer
back to factory installment as even my IT manager said i had no chance to get
out of that loop.
It might be best to restore back to factory mode but by doing this you do
loose all of your programs that you have installed since getting your
computer so hopefully you have all the discs. Please note that you do NOT
lose files like most ppl think
best of luck though i hope you dont have to go to that extreme

Careful. Whether or not files are lost or preserved depends on the type of
recovery that the user has available. Without knowing exactly what the OP
has available for repair/reinstall/recovery it's impossible to state if
their files will be preserved or not.

Some OEMs offer a destructive recovery (remove and replace everything)
only. Others offer a repair/non-destructive repair which will preserve some
files. A temporary parallel install (if using a retail CD and some OEM CDs)
can make it possible to grab data before doing a complete rebuild.
