Setup for a W98 installation will not run!!!

Hi:

This is a repeat, with a slightly different twist, to a message I sent recently.

I have a new XP machine, and am finding that some of my W98 applications on CD will not
install on it. Specifica;ly, the "Setup" routine wont start. I can open and view all the
files on the CD but when I click on Setup, it just sits there. I know there is a
"comparability" mode, but when I tried it there was still no response from setup.

Can someone give me a pointer, because I really need to install this application.

This is a follow up.

I have found another XP machine, with version 2002 and sp1, and on THAT machine the SETUP
works. Its clearly something that's set differently in the two machines, but I have no
idea what it might be. One is a Toshiba Laptop (the one that reads the setup file) and the
other is an E-Machine Desktop (the one that does not). The e-machine is slightly newer.

Any pointers??

After a lot of messing around I found that the virus checker was the issue, and that the
way it was set up it would not allow a setup from any account other than the one it was
originally installed in.

Interesting, John. Am glad you found the solution . If this is not an
apparent setting in that particular antivirus program, may be an issue that
company should know about?
