Microsoft had me reinstall xp. I had to first use a win 98 bootable floppy per their inst. (could not get sys to boot). Reinstallation was complete. Afterwards I booted up and was surfing. pc shutdown and rebooted. I got the following error below. Can someone tell me how to correct this. I don't understand about the utility it mentions below. I need to correct this right?? Thanx, Tre

PS, I did a complete reinstallation. The only cd I used was the one with the operating sys. but there were 4 other cd's #'d 1 thru 4 but never had to use them. What is the purpose of these 4 cd's??(they say there for restoring)..

Error
Setup detected that the system file named [c:\windows\system32\srrstr.dll] is not signed properl
by Microsoft. This file could not be restored to the correct Microsoft version
Use the SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file

Hi Trev,

What it wants you to do is click start/run and enter "sfc /scannow" to check
the integrity of the system files.

Hi Trev,

If after reinstalling you surfed the web without a firewall adn
without updating your computer, you might have a worm or virus. Go to
any of these for a free online scan of your box:

Trend Micro HouseCall:

Panda Active Scan:

RAV AntiVirus Online Virus Scan

You can also download Hijack This from here:

Go here:

For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces so experts tell you what is good and what is malware

Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.
