My wifes computer (new installation) kept rebooting for no obvious reason - when I checked control panel/system/hardware devices and nothing showed. I took the view that the initial installation was incomplete, put in the Windows XP CD to attempt a repair installation. It asked me if I required an 'update' installation and I responded yes
The update installation failed and came back with a message on a blue screen stating

" Setup cannot set the required Windows XP configuration information. This indicates an internal Setup Error

contact your system administrator

I cannot now access windows. I have attempted all routes available and just keep cycling through the same problems
If I invoke Windows XP Setup (as opposed to Windows XP Home Edition) then it tries to load all the necessary files but hangs when the loading bar is at 75 to 80% complete

Help will be greatly appreciated.
