i recently purchased windows xp professional, and the
setup loads great but the file transfer will not
cooperate, i usually cannot load at least 20 files, random
each time i try. the problem is not with the cd or the
drives on my computer, because it all worked on all my
computers at home, with no problem, except this one. it
has a MSI 645E-MAX socket 478 motherboard with 256 mb of
ddr ram at 266mhz (pc2700) and an intel celeron 2.2 ghz
(all recently purchased). i dont know much about what
could cause the file transfer errors but, i am hoping that
somebody out there does.

I had the problem you described and I found that disabling
S.M.A.R.T. on hard drive in the bios was the only way i
was able to install xp pro

thank you for your reply (i am the person who posted this
message). it seems that i already disabled S.M.A.R.T. and
it still didn't work the way i hoped it would. i also
tried it with this setting enabled and the results were
the same. i am glad to here that this is a configuration
error, not a fatal hardware error, but i still dont have a
clue what is not working correctly. could you help me
narrow this down and tell me what category of bios
settings i should use to correct this error (e.x. :
advanced bios, advanced chipset, power management,
standard cmos, pnp configuration). i also have an online
manual for my motherboard with the bios setup which if you
are willing you can look at and tell me what you think

thank you for all your help. i really appreciate it.
