I'm trying to upgrade from Win 98 to Win 2000 Pro. I
contacted my manufacturer, and they said it should work.
The install disk barely gets into the "Preparing an
Upgrade Report" screen before displaying the
message "Setup cannot continue. Contact Microsoft
Technical Support." on a Fatal Error message screen. I
tried to contact Microsoft support directly, but they
asked for a ProductID that does not match the Product Key
on my disk, and the only instructions for finding the
product ID are for when Windows 2000 has been installed,
which I cannot do. Help please!

You got choices...
Put the HDD in another box as the slave and copy all of the data and other
you need over to your main drive. When you're done, FDISK, if necessary, and
FORMAT the drive.
Or you can just wait to put it back in the original tower ( called a box),
and then format or fdisk/format with a 98se boot disk. And then you can do a
fresh install. You will need the software to install your OS.

It is much much better to install W2K as a fresh stand alone OS.
