During a clean install of W2K Pro, I am getting an
error message: "Setup cannot copy file filename.xxx" and
three options:"ENTER=try again, Esc=skip, F3-abort
installation". Enter does nothing, the file does not
copy; Esc skips one file, and the same error shows on all
other files that Setup needs to copy.

I decided to reinstall the OS to get rid of blue
screen errors (yes!, on Windows 2000). Could there be
something wrong with the BIOS, RAM, or the hard drive???

Anyone has any idea what is wrong?

Generally you are going to get that error when the setup program has
lost access to the CDROM. How is the CDROM connected to the system? Is
it on the same controller as the hard drive. At what point in the setup
do you get that error?

The CD-ROM is connected properly, the CD is clean. The
message comes during copying files after formatting hard
drive (not always with the same file).

SOLVED!
The problem was caused by faulty RAM.

Thanks for letting us know. It is not very common for memory problems to
cause file copy errors. Usually memory problems will cause random stop
errors or just hangs.
