I've been attempting to setup a VPN server for the past
couple of days and i just can't seem to get it to work.
Here's my stats.

VPN "server" is running on a Windows XP Pro box that sits
behind a router. The "server" I talk of is the one that
is built into the OS.

Then, on a remote machine, I make a new connection to VPN
into the "server" and i keep getting all kinds of
errors. All the setup options have been left default and
I've even tried changing a few...but still nothing. I've
tried fowarding port 1723(tcp) to the server and
still...nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

What router? You also need to make sure the router can pass GRE Protocol 47 traffic in addition to
forwarding TCP Port 1723, which you say you have done. Some router manufacturers call this "PPTP
Pass Through" or "VPN Pass Through" or something similar...

The router is a SpeedStream 2623. According to
documentation and the guy I spoke with over the phone
about it there is nothing I need to do and the router
supports VPNs

I also read somewhere that i needed to foward port 47.

My question is to i foward 47 to 47 and 1723 to 1723 or
is it 47 to 1723 and 1723 to 47???

TIA

As I noted earlier, you need to make sure the device will pass GRE Protocol 47 traffic. The "Users
Guide" mentions support for PPTP VPN on page 1-2.

The Knowledge Base...

http://www.speedstream.com/support/

also mentions "PPTP Pass Through", although I can't find any mention of this in the Users Guide. I
would search the User Guide for help, recontact Siemens support and/or install the newest firmware
to make sure this is supported...

You can also try forwarding TCP/UDP Port 47 to TCP/UDP Port 47, but be warned that may not work. Its
also possible it is in the "Advanced" section of the configuration for the router...

Good luck...
