settting up webfolders or ftp

I want to share files privately over the internet. what's the best way to do
this? Should I simply set up an ftp server or is there something more
faster/more secure/more easier/more better?

Secure your PC with a firewall, allow remote desktop (if Windows XP
Professional) and use it to map the drives, etc . Then you not only have
access to the files on your remote desktop, but you HAVE your remote
desktop.. heh
